The Imperfect Perfectionist Biblical Weekly Devotionalde*vo*tion | noun | love, loyalty, or enthusiasm for a person, activity, or cause.
Hey all, Im Rob. A man on the path to live the life God ordained for me. Through my personal trials and errors i can honestly say that taking God at his word really does give you life to the fullest.
John 10:10 | “The thief comes only to kill and steal and destroy; i have come so that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
Tired of Running from the TruthI am FAR from perfect and knowing this was difficult because I thought a successful life was obtained through hard work. Hard work that delivered perfection. But I had it wrong
My agenda was all that mattered. I wanted success more than God’s love and for that I suffered the consequences. Chasing success wasn’t breaking any moral code in my book because that’s what we’re supposed to do … right? The answer is no and the bible explains why. Romans 8:6 in the message bible (MSG version) in short says “those who trust Gods action in them find God’s spirit in them…obsession with self in these matters is a dead end; attention to God leads us out into the open, into a spacious, free life.”
My approach to success has been modified to seek first God’s will in all matters. I noticed when I increased my bible reading and actively sought answers to my questions about God, the more I felt successful and free from the pressures of life. The truth is, “the Big Bang” didn’t create this world, God did. He created man and woman to enjoy the earth. We’re HIS CREATION and we should act accordingly as David exclaimed in Psalm 145:10-11 (NIV)
“All your works praise you, Lord; your faithful people extol you. They tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might.” Jesus Christ died on the cross for explaining this. We owe it to God to at least do research and gain biblical understanding of the things Jesus died for. Even after all Jesus has been through the bible says God will give us the desires of our heart and that His words will not return to Him void. My loyalty to God isn’t conditionally based on the fact that He can make my life successful. Its because I want to reciprocate that unconditional love to Him.
HOW TO STOP BEING A PERFECTIONIST AND BECOME PERFECT IN GOD’S SIGHT
Reach out to a friend for accountability and strength. Forces of demonic oppression is real so your path to discovering God’s desires for your life will be hard. Why do you think its so easy to give in to sin and temptation? Walking away from it can feel paralyzing. GALATIANS 6:1-2 (NIV) 6 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. 2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
Create a list of goals and a list of accomplishments including the small things such as waking up on time, getting out of the bed, brushing your teeth, etc. A reminder of the things you’ve done right can go a long way in keeping you focused when temptation appears.
Hebrews 12:7-11 (NIV) says “7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? 8 If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. 9 Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live! 10 They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. 11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”
